Join The Annual Polar Plunge This Year

Polar Plunge

Help Gaston County’s Special Olympic athletes and have a ton of fun in the process by participating in the Polar Plunge. Special Olympics Gaston County is hosting the Polar Plunge on Feb. 23 at the Lineberger Park Pool. Get there at 1 p.m. and be ready to jump at 2 p.m. Then, stick around for a couple of hours so you can enjoy the afterparty.

Individual adult plungers can register for $25 each. It’s $10 for kids 12 and under and $125 for teams of six adults.

Here are some things to remember before the plunge.

Wear a Costume

The Polar Plunge is fun no matter what, but it’s even more enjoyable when you wear a costume. Many people will wear costumes, and there will even be a costume contest. Just make sure you wear something that will stay on when you take the jump. You don’t want to have to swim out to catch your tiara or cape. The water is going to be cold, so you’ll want to get out quickly without gathering various items.

Make a Splash

There won’t just be a costume contest. There will also be prizes for the oldest jumper, youngest jumper, and biggest splash. You can’t control your age, but you sure can control the splash you make. Go in full force so you can take home the prize. You’re sure to turn some heads with your huge splash, and those heads will turn again when your name is announced as the winner.

Raise Money

You have to pay a fee to join, but don’t stop there. This is also a fundraiser, so try to raise some additional funds to help the Special Olympics. You’ll even land a prize if you raise at least $250. Get out there and start asking people for money for this amazing cause.

Bring a Towel

Towels will likely be provided, but it’s still a good idea to bring your own. It’s awfully cold in February, and you don’t want to have to stand in line to get a towel. You also don’t want something that is too small to adequately dry you off. Bring your own so you’ll be dry and warm in no time.

Stick Around and Party

Don’t leave after the jump. There’ll be a DJ and games, plus you can down some hot chocolate. Hang out with the other jumpers, share some laughs, and make some memories.
