Over the years, the Fossil Fair has become one of the most popular events at the Schiele Museum of Natural History. Hundreds of people travel to the museum to explore fossils, minerals, rocks, and more, and it’s a fun learning experience for all ages. This year’s Fossil Fair will be at the museum on Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Museum members can attend the fair for $3. Non-members have to pay the $3 plus the price of admission to the museum. Admission is $7 for adults and $6 for kids aged 3 to 17. Kids under 3 get in for free.
About the Fair
Your family will get to see all kind of fossils at the fair, and they can even mine for some. Just imagine how excited your little paleontologist in training will be when he or she discovers a tiny fossil that came straight from the Carolina coast.
The mining doesn’t have to stop with the fossils, either. Gemstone mining is also available, and it’s always a hit. Your kids can mine for emeralds, garnets, and other gemstones, and they’ll be excited by everything they find.
This is just a glimpse of what you can expect at the festival. There will also be a Dino Safari, vendors, and much more.

The Special Presentation
You’ll also want to stick around for the special presentation. Matt Borths, the Curator of the Division of Fossil Primates at the Duke Lemur Center, will speak to fairgoers. Expect to learn quite a bit about fossils during this presentation. Don’t worry about it being boring for the kids. The fair is geared toward children, so it will be entertaining.
