Grab your jogging shoes and register for the 17th Annual YMCA Turkey Trot, hosted by the Hickory Foundation YMCA. It will be a fun time as always, and it includes your choice of races, including a Youth Fun Run, a 5K Walk/Run, or a 10K Run.
Where and When
The exact location of the run depends on which race you choose to participate in. The Youth Fun Run is on the outdoor running track of the Hickory Branch. If you are participating in either the 5K Walk/Run or the 10K Run, you can check out the running map online, where you will even find directions. The race itself is on Nov. 18, which is a Saturday. The Youth Fun Run starts that morning at 8:30 a.m., the 10K begins at 9:00 a.m., and the 5K starts at 9:10 a.m.
Turkey Trot Registration
You can register for the 17th Annual YMCA Turkey Trot until Nov. 11. If you miss those dates, late registration goes from Nov. 12 to 18, and there is race day registration between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. If you want a t-shirt, however, you have to register before Nov. 12. Regular registration for either the 5K or 10K is $20 online or $25 with paper. Registering late costs $35. There is no registration fee to participate in the Youth Fun Run, regardless of age.
To help everyone stay motivated to finish the race and have a good time, there will be awards for top females and males in the 5K and 10K races. The award ceremony, complete with trophies and turkeys, will be at the Teen Center starting at 11:00 a.m. In addition to trophies and turkey for the top racers of each gender in each race, there is also going to be recognition for the top three males and females in each age group. The age groups are in sets of five years, starting with nine and under, followed by 10–14, 15–19, 20–24, and so on until they reach 55–59, 60–69, and 70 and over.
What It Supports
The race is sponsored by the Hickory Branch of the YMCA of Catawba Valley, and the proceeds benefit the Annual Campaign of the YMCA. This campaign funds programs for those of all ages, including families, youth, teens, and seniors within the Catawba County area. Sponsors for the event include OrthoCarolina Hickory, Cornerstone Health Care, Panera Bread, Alicia Carroll M.D., McDonald’s, Pepsi, and Fleet Feet Sports.
